Pike County & The City of Troy
Pike County is located in the "Wiregrass" area of southeastern Alabama. The County was originally created in 1821, and named after Gen. Zebulon Pike, a soldier in the War of 1812. Nestled among 672 square miles of rolling hills, tens of thousands of wooded acres and hundreds of ponds and lakes the county is a natural setting for a comfortable life style and a sportsman's paradise.
The City of Troy, the seat of Pike County, is rich in "Old South" heritage. Troy is known for its historic homes, charming town square, tree-lined streets and friendly atmosphere. It is home to Troy University, the second largest state university in Alabama. Founded as a teachers' training college in 1887, the school's 460-acre main campus offers a wide selection of degrees and serves a diverse international student body.
Troy, Alabama is less than 50 miles south of Montgomery and within easy commuting distance of Birmingham, Atlanta, Dothan and Mobile. Residents of Troy are only a short two hour drive from the sunny beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.
Recent years have given way to positive employment trends. Business and industrial opportunities are plentiful. An expanding local economy, a growing education system, attractive neighborhoods and low tax rates make Troy an ideal place for relocation.
